Worksheet for Children and Beginner - Tenses - Present Perfect Tense and Past Simple Tense (P18-P23)

Hi friends,

The post today can be the last post of Present Perfect Tense and Past Simple Tense series. There are 6 worksheets (Worksheet 18 to 23) which focus on sentence transformation without changing the meaning. My students have some difficulties doing homework about rephrasing the sentence from present perfect tense or past simple tense to another form, so I created these worksheets to help them to practice more about it, also sharing on my blog and hope they can help you (or your students) to learn and teach English in the easiest way. This year is not easy for us, so sharing is caring, isn't it?


In sentence transformation, there are some forms you have to remember:

1) I started/began working .... => I have worked ...

Eg1: I started working in this company in 2017.

=> I have worked in this computer since 2017.

Eg2: I started working in this company 3 years ago.

=> I have worked in this company for 3 years.

Eg3: I started working in this company when I was 24.

=> I have worked in this company since I was 24.

2) It is .... years since I (last) worked .... => I haven't worked ... for ... years.

Eg: It is 3 years since I worked in this company. 

=> I haven't worked for this company for 3 years.

3) The last time I worked .... was ... => I haven't worked ... for/since ...

Eg1: The last time I worked in this company was in August.

=> I haven't worked in this company since August.

Eg2: The last time I worked in this company was 3 years ago.

=> I haven't worked in this company for 3 years.

Eg3: The last time I worked in this company when I was 24.

=> I haven't worked in this company since I was 24.

4) I last worked ... => I haven't worked ...

Eg1: I last worked in this company 3 years ago.

=> I haven't worked in this company for 3 years.

Eg2: I last worked in this company in August.

=> I haven't worked in this company since August.

Eg3: I last worked in this company when I was 24.

=> I haven't worked in this company since I was 24.

5) I stopped working ... => I haven't worked ...

Eg1: I stopped working in this company in August.

=> I haven't worked in this company since August.

Eg2: I stopped working in this company 3 years ago.

=> I haven't worked in this company for 3 years.

6) How long have you worked ...? => When did you work ...? 

Eg: How long have you worked in this company?

=> When did you work in this company?

7) How long is it since you worked ...? => When did you work ...?

Eg: How long is it since you worked in this company?

=> When did you work in this company?

8) How long have you not worked ...? => When did you last work ...?

Eg: How long have you not worked in this company?

=> When did you last work in this company?

9) This/It is the first time I have (ever) eaten ...=> I haven't eaten ... before

Eg1: This is the first time I have ever eaten this kind of food.

=> I haven't eaten this kind of food before.

Eg2: This is the first time I have eaten such a spicy food.

=> I haven't eaten such a spicy food before.

10) This is the ... I have ever eaten. => I haven't eaten such ... (before)

Eg: This is the most spicy food I have ever eaten.

=> I haven't eaten such a spicy food.

11) This/It is the first time I have met ... as ... => I haven't met such ... as ... (before)

Eg: This is the first time I have met such a nice person as Mary.

=> I haven't met such a nice person as Mary.

12) ... is the .... I have ever met => I haven't met such ... as ...

Eg: Mary is the nicest person I have ever met.

=> I haven't met such a nice person as Mary.
